The Reviews are in!

Sophie Love brings a yearning to Audrey, working in the shop with Seymour. “Somewhere That’s Green” is a heartfelt longing to escape poverty, with bits of funny moments, including enjoying TV on “our huge, 12-inch screen.” In “Suddenly Seymour,” she sings tenderly of never believing she deserved a good man and realizing her love for Seymour. Her reprise of “Somewhere That’s Green” is heartbreaking.

Under the direction of Madeline Austin, Maxwell Wolf leads this talent cast as the bumbling amateur botanist, Seymour. Sophie Love stars as his colleague and love interest, Audrey. Martin Egna plays their cranky boss, Mr. Mushnik. Andrew Agner-Nichols is Audrey’s cruel and abusive boyfriend who is frequently high on happy gas. Barrett Johnson, Keila Mumphord, and Cristen Young comprise a trio of Catholic school-uniformed “urchins” who spend their days on the flower shop’s stoop smoking cigarettes and reading magazines. Their songs narrate the story and move the plot along.

FEEL THE SPACE

Salisbury University's production of Town Hall provides an opportunity for conversation and reflection. Audience participation is allowed and encouraged, but not required. The people facilitating this conversation talk about war, togetherness, and the human experience as they come to terms with worldwide tragedy. We learn about these characters, which remain nameless for most of the play, and why they think and act the way they do. Time seems to ebb and flow with a changing reality. We switch constantly between the real world and a dreamlike state.

A THRILLING THEATRE EXPERIENCE

Salisbury University's production of Dr. Faustus is a very different take on Cristopher Marlowe's 16th century play. This production featured traverse staging, much like a runway. A black box theatre was used. One of the most shocking elements of this production was that the entire black box was painted red. This show called for a great deal of movement within the acting which heightened an immersive experience for the audience. Blake Harris's interpretation of the play explores societal understanding of queer identity and the pursuit of knowledge as it relates to the characters' use of dark magic.

WELCOME TO OUR HOUSE

Salisbury University's production of Fun Home was an immersive and emotional experience. This production takes you inside the house where it all started as you follow the graphic novelist Alison Bechdel. She returns to her family home, now covered in tarps and sheets, to write her graphic novel. The house suddenly comes alive featuring household items hanging from the ceiling and acting that takes the audience on a journey throughout the space.
